KBL Round 36 (Regular Season): LG Sakers lose to Daegu

Top ranked Sakers (28-12) recorded its twelfth loss in Incheon on Tuesday night. Visitors were edged by tenth ranked Daegu (12-27) 72-71. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Sakers. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Ricardo Ratliffe (203-1989, college: Missouri) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 18 rebounds. The former international forward Seung-Min Shin (195-1998) chipped in 11 points and 7 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Egyptian center Assem Marei (206-1992, college: MSU) who recorded a triple-double by scoring 18 points, 19 rebounds, 10 assists and 7 steals. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Daegu moved-up to ninth place. Defending champion LG Sakers still keep top position with 12 games lost. Daegu are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Seoul Thunders (#10) at home in the next round. LG Sakers will play against Wonju DB (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

However their fans expected much easier game. It was a good game for American forward Derrick Williams (203-1991, college: Arizona) who led his team to a victory with 29 points and 9 rebounds. Sungwook Kang contributed with 23 points and 10 assists for the winners. Canadian Andrew Nicholson (206-1989, college: St.Bonaventure) replied with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds for Seoul Thunders. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Suwon KT maintains fifth position with 20-21 record. Seoul Thunders lost fifth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 28 lost games. Suwon KT's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Busan to the arena KCC Egis.

Worth to mention a quality performance of Jameel Warney who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 21 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists. The best for the losing side was Nathan Knight with 12 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Knights have an impressive five-game winning streak. Seoul Knights maintains fourth position with 25-15 record. Sono SG at the other side keeps the seventh place with 23 games lost. Seoul Knights will meet at home league's second-placed Anyang in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Sono SG will play against Mobis Phoebus (#8) in Ulsan and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last two games of round 36 Suwon KT was defeated by Anyang in a road game 74-65. Mobis Phoebus beat Seoul Thunders at home 87-77.
The best stats of 36th round was 16 points by Kyungwon Kim of Anyang.



Suwon KT - Seoul Thunders 104-101

Tenth-ranked Samsung Thunders (12-28) made lots of trouble for fifth ranked Sonicboom (20-21) in Busan. Sonicboom managed to secure only three-point victory 104-101. However their fans expected much easier game. Suwon KT players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. Seoul Thunders were plagued by 29 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for American forward Derrick Williams (203-1991, college: Arizona) who led his team to a victory with 29 points and 9 rebounds. Guard Sungwook Kang (183-2004) contributed with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 assists for the winners. Four Sonicboom players scored in double figures. Canadian Andrew Nicholson (206-1989, college: St.Bonaventure) replied with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds and naturalized American guard Justin Gutang (191-1997, college: Skyline JC) added 9 points, 9 rebounds and 10 assists in the effort for Seoul Thunders. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Suwon KT maintains fifth position with 20-21 record. Seoul Thunders lost fifth consecutive game. They stay dead last with 28 lost games. Suwon KT's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Busan to the arena KCC Egis.

Anyang - Suwon KT 74-65

There was no surprise when 5th ranked Sonicboom (20-21) was defeated on the road by second ranked Anyang (26-14) 74-65 on Friday. Anyang dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Sonicboom's 30. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international point guard Jihoon Park (184-1995) who helped to win the game recording 18 points and 6 assists and the former international center Kyungwon Kim (199-1996) who added 16 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) during the contest. Anyang's coach Seung-Ki Kim used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was American forward Derrick Williams (203-1991, college: Arizona) with 19 points and 6 rebounds and forward Doo-Won Lee (199-2000) scored 11 points and 7 rebounds. Anyang have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 26-14 record having just two points less than leader LG Sakers. The best for the losing side was Canadian Andrew Nicholson (206-1989, college: St.Bonaventure) with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 14 rebounds and point guard Ho-Bin Han-jin (181-1991) scored 19 points and 5 assists.
